From Research to Entrepreneurship
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
- Mark Twain

Prof. Ursula Wolf at the University of Bern had just received a prestigious $2 million grant bridge the gap between basic research and commercialization by turning the concept of a textile-based NIRS sensors into a mark-ready tissue health monitor for pressure injury prevention. Dr. Oliver Kress, after spending 8 months in an industry job after finishing his PhD in Göttingen, Germany, was ready to get back into research but with a focus on real-world application and product development. Tarcisi Cantieni, a biomedical engineer who got his master's at the University of Bern, was ready to dive into his PhD and tackle new exciting technical challenges in the field of near-infrared spectroscopy.
After more than two years of overcoming countless challenges, we have become a tight-knit team ready to begin a new journey and start a company. That company is Sensawear, and we are pushing forward every day to guarantee our innovations reach the market and the countless paraplegics and otherwise mobility restricted have the monitoring system they need to avoid pressure injuries for good.
